ABOUT US

Our Story

Founded in 2013, Safe Places To Work is a pioneer in the field of psychological safety.

Born out of behavioural safety work in the high-stakes world of the nuclear industry, enriched by years of experience running employee engagement surveys, and grounded in research in neuroscience and behavioural science.

We were ahead of our time. In fact, ahead of Google. Google’s Project Aristotle, published in 2014, confirmed what we already knew: that psychological safety is the #1 driver of team performance, learning, innovation, and collaboration.

At Safe Places To Work, our mission is clear: to eliminate fear in the workplace and build environments where people can thrive. But let’s be clear, this isn’t about wrapping people in bubble wrap. It’s about real accountability. Psychological safety requires every person, at every level, to actively contribute to a culture where people feel safe to speak up, take risks, challenge the status quo, and learn from mistakes.

Our Approach

Our work is inspired by the Swiss Cheese Model, the idea that weaknesses in multiple layers of defence (individual, team, manager, organisation) can align to allow failures. Our logo reflects this, symbolising how layered protection is essential, and how individuals are at the heart of it all.

Using our SAFER Framework, we help organisations diagnose issues, provide targeted training, and embed lasting change. Our model equips leaders and teams with practical tools to foster trust, openness, and psychological safety at every layer of the business.

What We Do
